Abstract
Latar Belakang: Penuaan merupakan proses alami yang ditandai dengan penurunan
fungsi tubuh termasuk fungsi kognitif. Salah satu gangguan kognitif yang umum
terjadi pada lansia adalah gangguan memori dan berdampak pada aktivitas sehari-
hari. Intervensi non-farmakologis seperti Brain Gym dan classic game (memory card)
terbukti mampu merangsang kerja otak dan meningkatkan fungsi kognitif.
Tujuan: Menggambarkan penerapan terapi Brain Gym dan Classic Game (Memory
Card) untuk meningkatkan fungsi kognitif pada lansia dengan gangguan memori.
Metode: Desain penelitian ini menggunakan Studi kasus dengan penerapan asuhan
keperawatan gerontik serta intervensi terapi Brain Gym dan classic game (memory
card)selama 6 sesi kepada dua lansia untuk meningkatkan fungsi kognitif pada lansia
dengan masalah gangguan memori.
Hasil: Penerapan terapi Brain Gym dan classic game (memory card) memberikan
dampak pada fungsi kognitif lansia. Hasil pengukuran fungsi kognitif menunjukkan
adanya peningkatan skor MMSE sebesar 6 poin setelah intervensi. Selain itu,
peningkatan juga terlihat pada indikator SLKI dalam aspek kemampuan mengingat
informasi faktual, peristiwa, serta perilaku tertentu.
Kesimpulan dan Saran: Terapi Brain Gym dan classic game (memory card) dapat
diterapkan pada lansia dengan gangguan memorisebagai upaya meningkatkan fungsi
kognitif. Diperlukan penelitian lebih lanjut tentang penerapan sample yang lebih
besar untuk menguji efektivitas terapi Brain Gym dan classic game (memory card)
dalam berbagai kondisi gangguan kognitif lainnya pada lansia.
Background: Aging is a natural process characterized by a decline in bodily
functions, including cognitive function. One common cognitive disorder among the
elderly is memory impairment, which affects daily activities. Non‐pharmacological
interventions such as Brain Gym and classic games (memory card) have been proven
capable of stimulating brain function and enhancing cognitive performance.
Objective: To describe the implementation of Brain Gym and classic game (memory
card) therapy to improve cognitive function in elderly individuals with memory
impairment.
Method: This study used a case study design with the application of gerontic nursing
care and intervention consisting of six sessions of Brain Gym and classic game
(memory card) therapy for two elderly participants with memory impairment, aimed
at improving their cognitive function.
Results: The application of Brain Gym and classic game (memory card) therapy had
a positive effect on the elderly participants’ cognitive function. Cognitive function
measured by the Mini‐Mental State Examination (MMSE) showed a 6‐point increase
after the intervention. Additionally, improvements were observed in SLKI indicators,
specifically in the ability to recall factual information, events, and certain behaviors.
Conclusion and Recommendations: Brain Gym and classic game (memory card)
therapy can be applied in elderly individuals with memory impairment as an effort to
improve cognitive function. Further research with a larger sample size is needed to
test the effectiveness of Brain Gym and classic game (memory card) therapies in
various other cognitive impairment conditions in the elderly.
