Abstract

perkembangan mental maupun fisik mereka, kekurangan gizi, sakit perut, diare,
menyebabkan terjadinya anemia. Tujuan Penelitian : Untuk mengetahui hasil
analisis infeksi Soil Transmitted Helminths pada anak Sekolah Dasar Negeri 40
Palembang melalui pemeriksaan feses.

Background: Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) infections are a common public
health issue, especially in developing countries with poor environmental
sanitation. These helminth infections are caused by roundworms (Ascaris
lumbricoides), whipworms (Trichuris trichiura), and hookworms (Ancylostoma
duodenale, Necator americanus). Children aged 5–14 years, particularly
elementary school students, are more susceptible to helminth infections. In
children, helminth infections can have adverse effects, including decreased
concentration leading to lack of interest in learning, impaired physical and mental
development, malnutrition, abdominal pain, diarrhea, drowsiness, weakness,
fatigue, paleness, weight loss, and anemia. Research Objective: To analyze the
prevalence of Soil-Transmitted Helminths infection among students of SDN 40
Palembang through fecal examination. Methods: This study used an analytic
observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 63 students were
randomly selected from grades 1, 2, and 3. Fecal examinations were conducted at
the Parasitology Laboratory of Poltekkes Kemenkes Palembang. Results: The
results showed that 4 children (6.3%) were infected with STH, with 3 children
(75%) infected with Ascaris lumbricoides and 1 child (25%) infected with
Trichuris trichiura. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between
handwashing habits using soap (p=0.009) and nail-cutting habits (p=0.000) with
the incidence of STH infection. Conclusion: The study concludes that
handwashing habits are significantly associated with STH infections.
