Abstract

Latar Belakang: Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) merupakan salah satu media
yang digunakan untuk pertumbuhan jamur Candida albicans. Media SDA
merupakan media instan buatan pabrik yang sudah siap digunakan, harganya mahal,
dan hanya diperoleh pada tempat tertentu. Ubi jalar (Ipomoea Batatas) mengandung
karbohidrat yang dapat digunakan sebagai penggantisumber karbohidrat pada media
SDA. Tujuan penelitian: Untuk Mengetahui potensi ubi jalar sebagai media alternatif
untuk pertumbuhan Candida albicans. Metode penelitian: yang digunakan adalah
metode Kuasi-Eksperimental. Hasil penelitian: didapatkan hasil rata-rata
pertumbuhan jamur Candida albicans dengan menghitung jumlah koloni selama 5
hari pada media SDA sebagai control yaitu sebanyak 101 CFU/ml, dan pada media
ubi jalar kuning konsentrasi 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% yaitu sebanyak 317
CFU/ml, 200 CFU/ml, 152 CFU/ml, 144 CFU/ml, 115 CFU/ml. Rata-rata diameter
koloni pada media SDA sebesar 6,5 mm, sedangkan pada media ubi jalar kuning
konsentrasi 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% yaitu sebesar 3,9 mm, 5,1 mm, 5,3 mm, 4,4
mm, 4,7 mm. Hasil uji statistic menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan antara rata-rata
media SDA dan media ubi jalar. Kesimpulan: dapat disimpulkan bahwa media
alternatif ubi jalar kuning pada konsentrasi 70% optimal dapat digunakan sebagai
pengganti media SDA untuk pertumbuhan Candida albicans. Saran: Disarankan
untuk menggunakan jamur dengan spesies yang berbeda.

Background: Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) is one of the media used for the
growth of Candida albicans fungi. SDA media is a factory-made instant media that
is ready to use, expensive, and only available in certain places. Sweet potatoes
(Ipomoea Batatas) contain carbohydrates that can be used as a substitute for
carbohydrate sources in SDA media. Research objectives: To determine the
potential of sweet potatoes as an alternative medium for the growth of Candida
albicans. Research method: the method used is the Quasi-Experimental method.
Research results: the average growth of Candida albicans fungus was obtained by
counting the number of colonies for 5 days on SDA media as a control, which was
101 CFU/ml, and on yellow sweet potato media with concentrations of 30%, 40%,
50%, 60%, 70%, which was 317 CFU/ml, 200 CFU/ml, 152 CFU/ml, 144 CFU/ml,
115 CFU/ml. The average colony diameter on SDA media was 6.5 mm, while on
yellow sweet potato media with concentrations of 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% it
was 3.9 mm, 5.1 mm, 5.3 mm, 4.4 mm, 4.7 mm. The results of statistical tests showed
no difference between the average of SDA media and sweet potato media.
Conclusion: it can be concluded that the alternative medium of yellow sweet potato
at an optimal concentration of 70% can be used as a substitute for SDA media for
the growth of Candida albicans. Suggestion: It is recommended to use fungi with
different species.
