Abstract

ABSTRAK
Latar Belakang : Menjaga kebersihan tangan merupakan salah satu cara efektif untuk mencegah penyebaran bakteri penyebab infeksi. Minyak biji habbatussauda (Nigella sativa L.) diketahui mengandung senyawa aktif thymoquinone yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri sehingga berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai bahan aktif alami dalam sediaan gel hand sanitizer. Carbopol 940 dipilih sebagai gelling agent karena mampu menghasilkan gel dengan viskositas dan stabilitas yang baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan memformulasikan dan mengevaluasi sediaan gel hand sanitizer dari minyak biji habbatussauda (Nigella sativa L.) dengan variasi carbopol 940 sebagai gelling agent guna memperoleh formula yang stabil secara fisik dan memenuhi persyaratan evaluasi sediaan.
Metode : Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental laboratorium dengan memformulasikan gel hand sanitizer yang mengandung minyak biji habbatussauda (Nigella sativa L.) 2% sebagai zat aktif dan variasi carbopol 940 sebagai gelling agent sebesar 0,5%; 0,75%; dan 1%. Selanjutnya dilakukan evaluasi stabilitas sediaan pada penyimpanan suhu kamar selama 28 hari dan uji dipercepat (cycling test) selama 12 hari ditinjau dari pH, viskositas, daya sebar, homogenitas, warna, bau, syneneris/swelling dan uji iritasi kulit.
Hasil : Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi didapatkan dari keempat formula bahwa pH, viskositas, daya sebar, homogenitas, warna, bau, syneneris/swelling dan uji iritasi kulit menunjukkan sediaan yang stabil dan memenuhi persyaratan selama 28 hari penyimpanan pada suhu kamar dan 12 hari pada uji dipercepat (cycling test). Formula I merupakan formula terbaik.
Kesimpulan : Minyak biji habbatussauda (Nigella sativa L.) dapat diformulasikan menjadi sediaan gel hand sanitizer yang stabil dan memenuhi persyaratan. Formula I dengan konsesntrasi carbopol 0,5% merupakan formula terbaik.

ABSTRACK
Background: Maintaining hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of infection-causing bacteria. Habbatussauda seed oil (Nigella sativa L.) is known to contain thymoquinone, an active compound with antibacterial activity, making it a potential natural active ingredient for hand sanitizer gel formulations. Carbopol 940 was selected as the gelling agent because it is capable of producing gels with good viscosity and stability. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate a hand sanitizer gel containing habbatussauda seed oil (Nigella sativa L.) using different concentrations of Carbopol 940 as the gelling agent to obtain a physically stable formulation that meets the required evaluation criteria..
Methods: This study employed a laboratory experimental method by formulating hand sanitizer gels containing 2% habbatussauda seed oil (Nigella sativa L.) as the active ingredient and varying concentrations of Carbopol 940 as the gelling agent at 0.5%, 0.75%, and 1%. The formulations were then evaluated for stability during storage at room temperature for 28 days and under accelerated conditions (cycling test) for 12 days. The evaluation parameters included pH, viscosity, spreadability, homogeneity, color, odor, syneresis/swelling, and skin irritation.
Results: The evaluation results showed that all four formulations met the required standards and remained stable throughout 28 days of room-temperature storage and 12 days of accelerated testing (cycling test). The parameters assessed, including pH, viscosity, spreadability, homogeneity, color, odor, syneresis/swelling, and skin irritation, indicated satisfactory stability. Formula I was identified as the best formulation.
Conclusion: Habbatussauda seed oil (Nigella sativa L.) can be successfully formulated into a stable hand sanitizer gel that meets the required quality standards. Formula I containing 0.5% carbopol 940 was identified as the best formulation.
