Abstract
Latar Belakang: Paparan radikal bebas dapat menyebabkan kerusakan pada kulit sehingga diperlukan antioksidan untuk menangkal efek tersebut. Daun ubi jalar ungu (Ipomoea batatas L.) mengandung senyawa metabolit sekunder seperti flavonoid, tanin, saponin, dan polifenol yang berpotensi sebagai antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji formulasi facial wash gel ekstrak daun ubi jalar ungu dengan variasi konsentrasi Carbopol 940 serta mengetahui kestabilan fisik sediaan.
Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental, ekstrak daun ubi jalar ungu (Ipomoea batatas L.) diformulasikan menjadi facial wash gel dengan variasi konsentrasi Carbopol 940, yaitu formula kontrol 1%, formula I 1%, formula II 1,25%, dan formula III 1,5%. Evaluasi dilakukan selama penyimpanan suhu kamar selama 28 hari dan uji dipercepat (cycling test) selama 12 hari meliputi pH, viskositas, daya sebar, tinggi busa, homogenitas, syneresis/swelling, organoleptis, dan iritasi kulit.
Hasil: Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi, seluruh formula facial wash gel memenuhi persyaratan mutu fisik dengan rentang pH 4,57–6,64, viskositas 2.388–3.820 cP, daya sebar 4,1–4,9 cm, dan tinggi busa 3,2–4,3 cm. Seluruh formula juga menunjukkan hasil homogen, tidak mengalami syneresis/swelling, stabil secara organoleptis (warna dan bau), serta tidak menimbulkan iritasi kulit selama penyimpanan suhu kamar maupun uji dipercepat (cycling test). Berdasarkan keseluruhan parameter yang dievaluiasi, formula II menunjukkan kestabilan fisik yang paling optimal dibandingkan formula lainnya.
Kesimpulan: Ekstrak daun ubi jalar ungu (Ipomoea batatas L.) dapat diformulasikan menjadi sediaan facial wash gel yang stabil dan memenuhi persyaratan. Formula yang paling optimal adalah formula II dengan konsentrasi Carbopol 940 sebesar 1,25%.
Background: Exposure to free radicals can cause skin damage; therefore, antioxidants are needed to counteract these effects. Purple sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas L.) contain secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and polyphenols that have potential antioxidant activity. This study aimed to evaluate the formulation of purple sweet potato leaf extract facial wash gel using various concentrations of Carbopol 940 and to determine the physical stability of the preparation.
Methods: This study employed an experimental method in which purple sweet potato leaf extract (Ipomoea batatas L.) was formulated into a facial wash gel using different concentrations of Carbopol 940, namely control formula 1%, formula I 1%, formula II 1.25%, and formula III 1.5%. The evaluations were carried out during 28 days of storage at room temperature and a 12-day accelerated stability test (cycling test), including pH, viscosity, spreadability, foam height, homogeneity, syneresis/swelling, organoleptic properties, and skin irritation tests.
Results: Based on the evaluation results, all facial wash gel formulations met the physical quality requirements with pH values ranging from 4.57–6.64, viscosity 2,388–3,820 cP, spreadability 4.1–4.9 cm, and foam height 3.2–4.3 cm. All formulations also showed good homogeneity, no syneresis/swelling, stable organoleptic properties (color and odor), and caused no skin irritation during room temperature storage and accelerated stability testing (cycling test). Based on the overall evaluated parameters, formula II showed the most optimal results compered with the other formulas.
Conclusion: Purple sweet potato leaf extract (Ipomoea batatas L.) can be formulated into a stable facial wash gel preparation that meets the required standards. Formula II, containing 1.25% Carbopol 940, was identified as the most optimal formulation.
