Abstract
Ny. P mengalami penurunan dari 205 mg/dL menjadi 179 mg/dL, Ny. N dari 217 mg/dL menjadi 196 mg/dL, dan Tn. A dari 221 mg/dL menjadi 179 mg/dL.
Background: Type II Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease commonly experienced by older adults and may cause uncontrolled blood glucose levels. This condition can increase the risk of complications and negatively affect quality of life. An assessment conducted at Harapan Kita Social Home in Palembang City found several older adults with type II DM who had elevated blood glucose levels. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be applied is light walking exercise. Objective: This case study aimed to describe the implementation of light walking exercise as an intervention to help manage unstable blood glucose levels among older adults with type II DM at Harapan Kita Social Home, Palembang City, in 2026. Method: A descriptive case study design was used involving three subjects: Mrs. P, Mrs. N, and Mr. A. The intervention was conducted for seven days, from April 28 to May 4, 2026. The therapy consisted of a 3–5-minute warm-up, 20 minutes of light walking, and a 3–5-minute cool-down. Data were collected through interviews, observations, vital sign measurements, and random blood glucose testing. Results: Following the intervention, random blood glucose levels decreased in all subjects. Mrs. P's level decreased from 205 mg/dL to 179 mg/dL, Mrs. N's from 217 mg/dL to 196 mg/dL, and Mr. A's from 221 mg/dL to 179 mg/dL. Conclusion: Light walking exercise can be used as a simple and beneficial non-pharmacological nursing intervention to help reduce blood glucose levels in older adults with type II DM.
