Abstract
Sebanyak 60 responden (55,0%) menyatakan belum pernah menerima informasi mengenai risiko resistensi antibiotik.
Background: Antibiotic resistance has become an increasingly significant public health problem due to the irrational use of antibiotics. Limited public knowledge regarding the appropriate use of antibiotics may increase the risk of antibiotic resistance. This study aimed to describe the O regarding the risk of antibiotic resistance resulting from inappropriate antibiotic use at Alang-Alang Lebar Public Health Center, Palembang.
Methods: This study employed a quantitative method with a descriptive design and a non-experimental approach. A total of 109 respondents were selected using an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire containing questions about antibiotic use and the risk of antibiotic resistance. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis and presented as frequency distributions and percentages.
Results: The majority of respondents were female (63.3%), aged 25–54 years (66.1%), and had completed senior high school education (64.2%). A total of 60 respondents (55.0%) reported that they had never received information regarding the risk of antibiotic resistance. The level of public knowledge was predominantly in the moderate category, with 60 respondents (55.0%), followed by the good category with 27 respondents (24.8%) and the poor category with 22 respondents (20.2%).
Conclusion: Most people at Alang-Alang Lebar Public Health Center, Palembang had a moderate level of knowledge regarding the risk of antibiotic resistance resulting from inappropriate antibiotic use. Therefore, continuous educational efforts are needed to improve public understanding of the rational use of antibiotics and the prevention of antibiotic resistance.
