Abstract

ABSTRAK

Latar Belakang: Kulit kering merupakan salah satu masalah kulit yang sering terjadi akibat menurunnya kadar air pada lapisan stratum korneum sehingga fungsi sawar kulit terganggu. Kecambah kacang hijau (Vigna radiata L.) mengandung senyawa bioaktif seperti flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, tanin, dan triterpenoid yang berpotensi sebagai antioksidan untuk membantu menjaga kesehatan kulit. Penelitian ini bertujuan memformulasikan dan mengevaluasi hand and body gel ekstrak kecambah kacang hijau dengan variasi konsentrasi Carbopol 940 sebagai gelling agent.
Metode: Penelitian eksperimental ini memformulasikan ekstrak kecambah kacang hijau berkonsentrasi 2,2% menjadi hand and body gel dengan Carbopol 940 sebesar 0,5% (Formula I), 1% (Formula II), dan 1,5% (Formula III). Evaluasi dilakukan selama penyimpanan 28 hari pada suhu kamar dan cycling test selama 12 hari meliputi pengujian pH, viskositas, daya sebar, homogenitas, organoleptik, sineresis/swelling, dan uji iritasi kulit.
Hasil: Seluruh formula memenuhi persyaratan pH, viskositas, homogenitas, organoleptik, sineresis/swelling, dan uji iritasi kulit selama penyimpanan maupun setelah cycling test. Formula III dengan Carbopol 940 sebesar 1,5% tidak memenuhi persyaratan daya sebar karena berada di bawah rentang 5–7 cm. Formula II dengan Carbopol 940 sebesar 1% merupakan formula paling optimal karena memenuhi seluruh parameter evaluasi dan memiliki stabilitas fisik yang baik.
Kesimpulan: Ekstrak kecambah kacang hijau (Vigna radiata L.) dapat diformulasikan menjadi hand and body gel yang stabil dan memenuhi persyaratan mutu fisik. Formula yang paling optimal adalah Formula II dengan konsentrasi Carbopol 940 sebesar 1%.

ABSTRACT

Background: Dry skin is a common skin condition caused by decreased water content in the stratum corneum, resulting in impaired skin barrier function. Mung bean sprouts (Vigna radiata L.) contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and triterpenoids, which have antioxidant potential to help maintain skin health. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate a hand and body gel containing mung bean sprout extract with different concentrations of Carbopol 940 as a gelling agent.
Methods: This experimental study formulated 2.2% mung bean sprout extract into a hand and body gel using Carbopol 940 at concentrations of 0.5% (Formula I), 1% (Formula II), and 1.5% (Formula III). The formulations were evaluated during 28 days of storage at room temperature and after a 12-day accelerated stability test (cycling test). The evaluation included pH, viscosity, spreadability, homogeneity, organoleptic properties, syneresis/swelling, and skin irritation tests.
Results: All formulations met the required standards for pH, viscosity, homogeneity, organoleptic properties, syneresis/swelling, and skin irritation throughout the storage period and after the cycling test. Formula III containing 1.5% Carbopol 940 did not meet the spreadability requirement because its spreadability value was below the acceptable range of 5–7 cm. Formula II containing 1% Carbopol 940 was the optimum formulation because it fulfilled all evaluation parameters and exhibited good physical stability.
Conclusion: Mung bean sprout extract (Vigna radiata L.) can be successfully formulated into a stable hand and body gel that meets the required physical quality standards. Formula II containing 1% Carbopol 940 was found to be the most optimal formulation.
