Abstract

Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is an increasing health problem requiring hemodialysis to maintain body function. Hemodialysis adequacy can be evaluated using the Urea Reduction Ratio (URR). Objetive: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between patient characteristics and URR among CKD patients at Siti Khadijah Hospital, Palembang. Methods: An observational analytic study with a retrospective cross-sectional design was conducted using medical records from May 2025 to May 2026. A total of 104 patients were selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and Spearman correlation (α=0.05). Results: Most participants were elderly (51.9%) and female (53.8%). The mean pre-hemodialysis urea level was 151.64 mg/dL and the post-hemodialysis level was 83.63 mg/dL. Bivariat analysis demonstrated significant relationships between pre hemodialysis and post hemodialysis blood urea levels and URR values (p<0,05). However, age and sex were not significantly associated with URR(p>0,05). These findings indicate that changes in blood urea levels before and after hemodialysis contribute to determining URR as an indicator of dialysis adequacy. Conclusions: Pre- and post-hemodialysis urea levels were significantly associated with URR, whereas age and sex were not. It is concluded that pre- and post-hemodialysis urea levels are associated with URR as an indicator of hemodialysis adequacy.
