Abstract

ABSTRACT
Background: TikTok has become one of the social media platforms widely used to get information about skincare products through User-Generated Content (UGC). However, high exposure to UGC doesn’t always come with the consumer’s ability to evaluate the accuracy of the information, which can affect their perception of risk and safety regarding skincare products. This study aims to analyze the influence of User-Generated Content (UGC) on TikTok on consumer perceptions of risk and safety related to facial skincare products.
Method: The type of research used was non-experimental with an analytic cross-sectional design carried out through the distribution of online questionnaires. The study sample consisted of 390 respondents using a non-probability sampling technique with the accidental sampling method. The data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test and continued with logistic regression.
Results: The study shows that source credibility, content authenticity, interactivity, visual appeal, and information relevance significantly affect both consumer risk perception and safety perception with a P-value < 0.05. Logistic regression results indicate that visual appeal is the most dominant factor influencing consumer risk perception, while information relevance is the most dominant factor affecting consumer safety perception.
Conclusion: The variables of source credibility, content authenticity, interactivity, visual appeal, and information relevance significantly affect consumers' risk perception and safety perception regarding facial skincare products. Visual appeal is the dominant variable for risk perception, while information relevance is the dominant variable for safety perception.
