Abstract

ABSTRACT
Background:Sectio Caesarea (SC) is a surgical delivery procedure involving an incision in the abdominal wall and uterus that often causes postoperative pain. This pain not only leads to physical discomfort but also increases anxiety, which may affect maternal recovery and disrupt oxytocin and prolactin hormones involved in breastfeeding. According to WHO (2023), around 85–90% of deliveries are accompanied by pain, and 35.9% of mothers experience severe pain, making pain management an essential aspect of midwifery care. Globally and in Indonesia, the rate of SC delivery remains high at around 17.6% of total births, and postoperative pain is still a major complaint despite analgesic administration. Pain management can be performed not only pharmacologically but also through non- pharmacological methods such as hypnosis, which works through relaxation and positive suggestion to reduce anxiety and pain perception. Based on observations in the obstetric inpatient ward of RSUD OKU Timur, many post-SC mothers still experience moderate to severe pain. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of hypnosis on pain levels in post-SC patients. Objective:To determine the effect of hypnosis on reducing pain levels in post-Sectio Caesarea patients in the obstetric inpatient ward of RSUD OKU Timur in 2026.Methods:This study used a quantitative quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The study was conducted at RSUD OKU Timur from March to April 2026. The population consisted of all post-SC mothers, with samples selected using accidental sampling until the required number of respondents was achieved. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to assess differences before and after the hypnosis intervention. Results:The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference in pain levels before and after hypnosis in post-SC patients with a p-value of 0.000.Conclusion:The study concludes that hypnosis has a significant effect in reducing pain levels in post-Sectio Caesarea patients at RSUD OKU Timur in 2026.
