Abstract
Background : Packed red blood cells (PRCs) are the blood component most frequently used in blood transfusion services. Implementing quality control (QC) on PRCs is crucial to ensure the quality, safety, and effectiveness of blood products before they are administered to patients. Research Objective : To find out the results of the PRC quality control parameter examination based on the quality standards stipulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 91 of 2015 concerning Blood Transfusion Service Standards. Research Method : This research is a quantitative descriptive study with an observational approach. The study was conducted from May to June 2026 at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Center in Palembang City. The research sample consisted of 68 PRC bags selected using a total sampling technique. Research Results : The results of descriptive statistical distribution analysis obtained an average PRC volume of 220.70 ± 13.79 mL, hematocrit of 70.30 ± 3.75%, hemoglobin of 49.57 ± 5.64 g/unit, hemolysis index of 0.0738 ± 0.1541%, and storage temperature of 3.93 ± 0.43°C. Based on frequency analysis, compliance with the standards of the Minister of Health Regulation Number 91 of 2015 was obtained at 98.5% in volume parameters, 92.6% in hematocrit, 98.5% in hemoglobin, 98.5% in hemolysis, and 100% in storage temperature. The results of the One-Sample t-Test showed that the average volume (p=0.111), hematocrit (p=0.511), and storage temperature (p=0.209) were not significantly different from the standard values. Meanwhile, the average hemoglobin was higher than the minimum standard of 45 g/unit (p<0.001) and the average hemolysis was lower than the maximum limit of 0.8% (p<0.001). Conclusion : The quality of Packed Red Cells (PRC) blood components at the UTD PMI Palembang City has generally met the quality standards based on the Minister of Health Regulation Number 91 of 2015. However, periodic evaluation and monitoring still need to be carried out, especially on the hematocrit parameter which has the highest level of non-compliance.
